Popularity of stand-alone emergency rooms on the rise

"Patients with potentially life-threatening conditions such as a chest pain, acute stroke or trauma should come directly to a hospital emergency room, as they have the ability to be sent directly to an operating room if needed. For minor cuts or sore throats, an urgent care center, such as one of our three MedPlus clinics, is a more appropriate setting." -Caryn Thomas, director of emergency services at College Station Medical Center.
