What is most meaningful about this article are the last three paragraphs. Perhaps simply modifying surrogate markers of heart disease (LDL, HDL, cholesterol) is insufficient to change outcomes (as many prior studies have demonstrated). Many patients taking medications to modify these surrogate markers falsely believe that the medications alone are sufficient intervention and that lifestyle changes are not essential. When the truth is that the medications are meant to be adjuvant to lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, tobacco avoidance). http://ift.tt/1VMjaZw
