Two Bryan Police Officers Credited With Saving A Man's Life - WTAW

Wonderful response by these two Bryan officers. I hope the dog bite victim recovers fully. Animal bites are responsible for 1% of all visits to the emergency department in the United States. Approximately 5% to 20% of these bites are infected. Bites may cause abscesses, soft tissue infection, tenosynovitis, septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, and bacteremia. Dog bites are less likely to become infected than cat bites. Infections after a bite are due to oral flora of the animal and microorganisms present on the skin of the patient. Following a dog or cat bite, adequate wound irrigation and debridement are required, and the need for tetanus and rabies prophylaxis is determined. Antibiotics should be given to all patients with an infected dog or cat bite. http://ift.tt/1VMjaZw
