Insufficient sleep may raise nighttime blood pressure

Insufficient sleep is linked to a number of chronic health conditions as well as poor on-job performance. Indeed, a sleep restricted employee has reaction times and delay in cognitive function akin to being legally intoxicated with alcohol. You would lose your job if you showed up drunk, yet many (hospital) employees show up sleep restricted with similar performance levels as if intoxicated. Sleep dept has to be repaid one for one--simply extending sleep hours during the weekend rarely repays a week's worth of sleep debt. We often start the next work week some hours still in debt...and so it carries forward resulting in a chronic partial sleep deprivation.
