Seniors Need 2 Vaccinations to Protect from Pneumonia, Meningitis | RT

The pneumococcal bacteria causes up to 50% of all pneumonias. Seniors are advised get both the Pneumovax 23 and Prevnar 13 vaccines. You can get the pneumococcal and influenza vaccine at the same time, but in different arms. Indeed, pneumococcal disease can be a complication of influenza, so getting both vaccines is a smart choice. Locally, in the Brazos Valley, we've seen many hospital admissions for pneumonia following the flu infection this season. Pneumonia and influenza together are ranked as the eighth leading cause of death in the United States.
