Are we under treating Down Syndrome OSA in the Brazos Valley? Given our population we should have roughly 450 Down patients in the BV, yet I've only seen and treated 2 Down patients for OSA since I've been in this community. It's always struck me as odd but, initially, I chalked it up to me being new to BV. However, 5 years later, this is unchanged. The majority of Down patients have OSA which is very treatable and treatment improves their quality of life. Because many Down patients have a component of compulsive behavior, once trained to use CPAP, they are HIGHLY compliant with therapy.
