E-books 'damage sleep and health'

Blue light exposure (~460 nm-same wavelength as the blue sky) from LED screens travels via melanopsin receptors in the retina to the suprachiasmatic nucleus in the brain where it increases neurotransmitters for alertness and suppresses those for sleep. Consequently, blue wavelength light exposure from such devices may cause sleep disturbances. Some programs such as f.lux claim to automatically filter bluelight from your device screen at sunset (as determined by your zip code). Consider avoiding electronics use altogether one hour before bedtime.
