Are genetically modified foods safe? Here's a catchy and possibly controversial music video regarding one perspective.
I think the issue is one of safety. Afterall, man has in essence been genetically engineering since the first day with pushed a seed into the ground and purposefully bred two animals together. We noticed some plants were healthier, more drought resistant, more bountiful, etc. We then bred those plants with favorable qualities, i.e, selected for preferred genes - viola! genetic engineering.
We did the same for animals.
Potentially selecting for a more delicious fruit lead to one that also concentrated a dangerous toxin. We had time to figure out safety because this process of cross breading was slow and allowed time for observation.
Now with gene selection occurring in laboratories, perhaps the assurance that we've done due diligence regarding safety is what concerns some. What are your thoughts?
